Our protocol has been evolving rapidly lately. It's easy to feel a bit lost in the growing Anima protocol landscape, especially when trying to navigate the different identity concepts and terminology. Fear not, for we are here to demystify the complexity and shed light on the advancements.

Anima Identity Attributes

TL;DR: Attributes is the first level of information decentralized in your Anima. Your age, name and nationality are 3 different identity attributes.

In the Anima protocol, attributes are the building blocks of your digital identity, encompassing everything from your name and nationality to the expiration date of your identification documents. These attributes are the key to unlocking certain claims, enabling you to effortlessly prove your age or other critical information needed to access specific platforms or web3 services.

Like everything decentralized in your Anima, each of your attributes are encrypted with your wallet and only you can decrypt and share them. Therefore only entities you choose to share your attributes with can gain access to your data.

Proofs

Currently, there are two distinct types of Proof, each with distinctive attributes - one that's based on official identity documents, and another that is full privacy preserving. Let's dive deeper into these two types and uncover their unique benefits and applications.

1.Proof of Identity (PoI)

TL;DR: Proof of Identity (PoI) contains off-chain data, such as biometric scans and ID documents, enabling compliance with regulatory and KYC requirements.

What is it:

Proof of Identity (PoI) utilizes off-chain information, including biometric data obtained through a scan of your face and ID documents. You can use it for many use cases, including meeting regulatory requirements and complying with KYC requirements which is necessary for accessing regulated platforms.

How it works:

The Proof of Identity (PoI) process starts with a liveness session to confirm that you are a real person behind your screen and not a bot in disguise. Once you are verified, you can easily upload your identity documents and store them in our secure data storage. Your credentials will be added to the Anima protocol, which you can conveniently manage and access through your wallet.

Currently, the following documents can be decentralized in your Anima:

  • Passport

  • Identity card

  • Driver license

  • Resident Permit

2.Proof of Personhood (PoP)

TL;DR: Proof of Personhood (PoP) allows you to prove unique identity and humanity while staying anonymous.

What is it:

Proof of Personhood (PoP) is the newest proof of Anima’s protocol. It allows you to prove your uniqueness and humanity while staying anonymous. This proof is essential for the future of web3. The idea behind PoP is to create a fairer system based on individuals, rather than just monetary investments like the number of tokens. It can unlock a new range of community structures impacting multiple areas, such as DAOs, airdrops, and other reward distribution or governance events.

How it works:

Unlike Proof of Identity, Proof of Personhood (PoP) doesn't require any official documents. PoP leverages the liveness session to generate a unique proxy called a facegraph, created using biometric data from your face scan. Once the facegraph is generated, the biometric data is destroyed. The biometric data is then converted into a mathematical vector representation of your face, which cannot be "rolled back" to a human visible face image.

Anima vault

TL;DR: The Anima vault is our dApp. It enables you to perform various tasks from managing your ID documents to exploring the Anima ecosystem with compatible dApps.

There's one more essential element to consider: the Anima vault. With the Anima vault, you can securely store any decentralized data in a one-stop portal designed for effortless identity management. In technical terms, the Anima vault is essentially the Anima dApp.

What can you do within the dApp? A lot!
With the dApp, you can easily:

  • Manage your ID documents with the wallet of your choice

  • Dive into the Anima ecosystem with compatible dApps

  • Learn the ideology and tech behind the protocol with our gitbook

  • Engage in Anima’s community through the referral section
