A new development step for the Anima protocol

The decentralized identity protocol Anima was launched on April 15, it was designed by Synaps, a leading KYC & KYB provider from the crypto sphere with an emphasis on supporting new projects to raise funds and onboard users within the legal framework of their jurisdiction(s).

Anima gives back to web3 users the control of their digital identity and answers to the latest challenges of the crypto market such as being sybil attack resistant and reconciling data privacy and market regulations.

The protocol’s Alpha was built on a first concrete use case: reusable KYC. Anima enables its community to decentralize their identity and share it instantly while needing to identify themselves on new platforms and protocols in Web 3.0.

From a technical point of view, Anima leverages on the users’ crypto wallets for both the encryption and authentication mechanism. This method brings security and convenience for the protocol users and has helped push adoption so far.

The development of new partnerships, the implementation of new use cases such as the identification of unique users (uniqueness) and the compatibility with new wallets were announced at launch as future development priorities. Today, the team officially announced the compatibility between Anima protocol and Ledger, a secured hardware wallet.

Anima unlocks its first hardware wallet with Ledger

For the Anima protocol, web3 users' habits are at the heart of the development strategy. Indeed, most members of the web3 community are very supportive of decentralized identity protocols. However, UX and lack of concrete use cases from other protocols seem to be the main bottlenecks to guarantee full adoption.

With this in mind and for better user experience, Anima protocol was launched in April with Metamask, which has over 30 million monthly active users, as its first compatible wallet.

After this important step, the protocol is now live on Ledger, which has sold more than three million hardware wallets in 190 countries to date and counts 1.5 million people using Ledger Live every month.

Ledger is now officially the first hardware wallet that can be used to decentralize your identity with the Anima protocol. If the creation mechanism of your decentralized identity remains the same as with other wallets, Ledger brings, as for the management of crypto assets, an additional security layer to your decentralized identity.

Among these advantages, we note the fact that on cold wallets, the private key remains unexposed and therefore doesn't risk being copied or hacked.

Indeed, while the loss of cryptocurrency from a wallet hack can have a significant impact, the damage or wrong use of an identity and the damage caused can be even greater. Working with established wallets is therefore essential for a dID protocol like Anima.

In the future, other compatible wallets will be added to the list and will self-promote the adoption of Anima protocol. In order to interface with the Anima protocol, crypto wallets must integrate an encryption/decryption function into their system. With Metamask and Ledger, the EIP 1024 cross client encrypt/decrypt method is used.
